Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo da vinci lived in Italy. He was considered a super human because he was a painter ,scientist, sculptor,engineer and many other things. He is a Polymath or renaissance man which means that his expertise travels through many fields of knowledge. He made many paintings but only 15 survived. His most famous paintings are the last supper and mona lisa.

My Space Art

Here are two of my newest drawings.  One is of a scape shuttle.  I named it Patriot.  The other one is a space ship called the Blue Typhoon.  It is also a boat, an airplane, and a craft carrier.

My latest Art adventure

On Wednesday night my mom agreed to make my soccer team matching sweatshirts.  We had to make 11 plus 2 for the coaches in less than 48 hours.  We did it.  I helped make the sweet design.  We used the freezer paper method.  We cut the design out using my mom's cricut machine.  Then we irons it on and painted the design using special paint.  After it dry we heat seat them.  My coaches and teammates all love them.  I was very proud.  Here are some pictures.

My interview with Clint Ivy about pastel art

Q. What first interested you in art?

A. I’ve always been interested in art because I am a visual thinker. I remember doing my first art for a story book in2^nd grade and took my first art class in 3^rd grade. What I love about art is the ability to convey stories and emotion without using words.

Q. What is your favorite type of art?

A. Broadly, my favorite is anything drawn or painted and I specifically love surrealism and cubism movements. I also love sculpture- especially love clay and furniture.

Q. How did you learn to use pastels?

A. I learned to use pastels in my teens through art classes in high school. We used them extensively in color theory and sketching.

Q. What is your favorite type of pastels?

A. My favorite brand? Those are Rembrandts, which are chalk pastels as opposed to oil pastels-think chalk instead of crayons.

Q. How many ways are there to set pastels?

A. Ah! well the primary would be to spray a special fixative on the work (hair spray works in a pinch) but you could also lacquer the work.

Q. What is the proper way to hold a pastel?

A. Not sure there is a proper way. Most of the time you will hold it just like a pencil. But, other times you could hold it so that that you can use the whole side of the pastel instead of just the end.

Q. Can you shade with pastels easily?

A. Yes you can they are great for shading and mix and match well to create new colors.

Q. How hard is it to work with pastels?

A. That’s a trick question. Pastels are very forgiving of mistakes and being somewhat unstructured but it is very hard to do precision work with pastels-they are inherently messy?

Q. What is the easiest way to keep a pastel from breaking while working!?

A. Keep a light but firm grip near the point or edge you are using. Also don’t apply hard pressure, instead take extra time fill in with more and lighter strokes.

Q. Is a pastel easy to make a small drawing with?

A. Define small. But in general as long as we are not talking about something smaller than 3” by5” it’s not to difficult

Q. What type of art is closest to pastels?

A. I think water painting is. The challenged and overall feel of finished works are very similer.

Finished my book

I am done with my book.  I really liked it.  I liked the fact that Rembrandt never lost his ability to be an amazing artist even after all of his life troubles.  It is encouraging to me.

I like his art because there is a nice balance of light in it.  My favorite painting of his is this one called  The Night Watch.

Another one I like because of it's sheer truthfulness is The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp.

I am beginning to understand that you can use different colors, yellows especially, to create light and shadows.  The light in paintings make them more 3D.  I think that is cool because the 3d paintings really are flat.  The illusion is created with colors.

More Rembrandt

Even though this book says for kids it is pretty long.  I did learn Rembrandt lived in Amsterdam and Leiden.   His last name is Harmenzoon Van Rijn.  He was born in 1606 and died in 1669.  He was only 63 when he died.  He was pretty young.  I think people did not live as long back then though so he may have been pretty old for his time.  Rembrandt has 3 daughters named Cornelia, only one of which survived past infancy.  He had one son named Titus who survived.

Rembrandt mostly painted people and also a few scenes from the bible.  He was very good at using light in his paintings with shadowing to make them more real.

Onto chapter 3 tomorrow.  By the way, there are only 5 chapters and then we move onto another book.

Rembrandt

I got my book today.

Rembrandt is about, well, you guessed it the great artist Rembrandt.  He has a tragic story.  All of his kids died in infancy and his mother and wife both dies in the same year.  That is pretty sad.  Right after I read that a bad accident happened outside of my house.  creepy.

Even though he had such terrible incidents he great flame stood fast in his art.  He still was an amazing artist.

Off to read some more.

My book is on it's way

My book should be here soon.  That is a good thing because I need to read it by November something.  This art thing is more complex than I thought it would be.  I am going to focus on drawing and making my drawing better.  I have been drawing different Thunderbirds.  Drawing helps my head stop thinking so much.  Sometimes it is loud in there and drawing makes it quiet for a bit.  That helps me I think.  My sister sometimes likes to draw with me too.

Exciting news on the Hobbyist Project.

My mom went to Spokane Washington for work and met an artist up there.  She is a one stroke painter and said she would be happy to do an interview with me.  I am also going to interview my dad who is a great pastel artist.  I bought a set of pastels but have not opened them yet.  Maybe this week.  They are messy and I need to get some fixative to set my project when it is done.  Plus I chose my first book and it is on order.
